Production began in Japan in 1984 and in Belgium in 1987. FeaturesThe 936 has a 3304 direct injection turbo, four-cylinder engine producing 125 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a four speeds forward, four reverse powershift transmission with four-wheel drive. It comes standard with caliper disc brakes, sealed Z-Bar linkage, pressure-compensated hydraulics, electronic monitoring system (EMS), folded core radiator, and a diagnostic connector. The 936 was manufactured in Canada, with a 33Z serial number prefix; in Japan, with a 4SB prefix; and in Belgium, with a 45Z prefix. The Belgian unit came standard with a fuel tank capacity of 52 gallons (200 L). ModificationsIn 1987, the Canadian unit&rsquo;s fuel capacity was increased to 52 gallons (200 L), beginning with 33Z02487. In 1987 and 1988, Caterpillar replaced the 936 with the 936E, which consisted of modified 33Z, 4SB, and 45Z units. With the 936E, Caterpillar increased horsepower to 135 FWHP and added a new input transfer gear, beginning with 33Z03091, 4SB01623, and 45Z03057. Production of 936E ended in Canada in 1991, Belgium in 1992, and Japan in 1993. The Caterpillar 936E was replaced by the Caterpillar 936F. Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros.
